Mobile Monday Community supports earthquake relief

The Mobile Monday community has no words to reflect the grief of the recent earthquakes. Simple actions can relieve pain and we encourage our members to support the efforts of the organizations on-site. The simplest way to do that is to send ‘1′ or ‘2′ by SMS to 1069999301, to donate 1 or 2 RMB to the Red Cross Society of China. The number of SMS donations is not limited and China Mobile users can send up to ‘30’ in one message. Other ways to donate here.

The Long March to 3G

3G is out there in China. In a similar fashion to the old X-Files meme, there are not many witnesses. Our 20th Mobile Monday session on May 26 will deal with “3G’s present and future” as the industry as a whole is trying to make sense out of the TD-SCDMA launch.

Among the questions we will address are many open-ended ones:
- Does China have a “third mover advantage” (after Japan/Korea, then Europe/US)?
- What kind of service and pricing will it offer?
- What level of market penetration is envisioned in the coming years?
- Are there chances for other standards?
- Will it help or damage the prospects of local manufacturers in the long run?
- Is 3G any better than say… WiMax for a country like China?
- Are we heading towards a WTO case?

Though only time will give clear-cut answers to these questions, our expert panelists and audience will work together on educated guesses.
